The seventh edition of the prestigious Kwahu Mountain Marathon is officially set for Saturday, April 4, 2026. Organizers have announced a "High-Altitude Reset" for the event,

introducing new categories and community activities designed to make this the most inclusive edition in the race's history.

With over 1,000 participants expected to take on the grueling ascent, the marathon continues to be the crown jewel of the Kwahu Easter festivities, blending elite athleticism with sports tourism.


1. The 2026 Race Categories

For the first time, Marathon Foundation Ghana, in collaboration with the Kwahu Traditional Council, has diversified the race structure to accommodate both professional athletes and corporate participants.

Professional Race 21 km Elite long-distance athletes seeking national recognition.
Corporate Challenge 5 km Companies, NGOs, and social groups promoting fitness.

2. The Iconic Route: Nkawkaw to Bepong

The marathon will follow its legendary "mountain-climbing" path, testing the endurance and lung capacity of every runner.

  • Start Point: Nkawkaw Goil Fuel Station (The Base).

  • Transit Points: Obomeng and Mpraeso.

  • Finish Line: Kwahu Traditional Council Office at Bepong.


3. Rewards and Athlete Support

Dr. Edward Kwadwo Boahen, Executive Director of the Marathon Foundation, emphasized that the event is a talent-identification platform.

  • Recognition: All participants will receive certificates of completion.

  • Elite Honors: Medals will be awarded to the Top 20 finishers in both the Men’s and Women’s divisions.

  • Welfare: To support regional talent, athletes will be provided with free accommodation during the event period.

The 2026 edition has evolved into a multi-day lifestyle festival. New additions include:

  • Inter-Community Cooking Competition: Sponsored by major partner Promasidor Ghana (Onga, Cowbell, Twisco).

  • Tourism Tours: Guided visits to the famous Kwahu paragliding sites and historical landmarks.
