Candace Academy Launches Season 3 of National Child Safety Campaign

In a major step toward institutionalizing child security, Candace Academy has launched the third season of its "Safety for All" campaign. The initiative, which has evolved from a grassroots project into a nationwide movement, focuses on equipping school children with the knowledge to recognize risks and navigate their environments safely.

At the launch event in Accra, Madam Hannah Humphrey, Executive Director of Candace Academy and a celebrated Taekwondo athlete, emphasized that safety should not be left to "chance" but must be rooted in "knowledge and empowerment."

1. Evolution of the Campaign: From Awareness to Ambassadors

Building on the success of the first two seasons—which reached thousands of pupils—Season 3 introduces a more robust and modernized curriculum. Educators and parents have already reported positive behavioral changes in children who participated in previous modules on personal boundaries and emergency awareness.

New Features of Season 3:

  • Child Personal Safety Education Module: Advanced lessons on identifying physical and environmental threats.

  • Digital-Safety Workshops: Teaching children how to stay safe in an increasingly connected "2026 Smartphone Era."

  • Emotional Well-being Sessions: Helping children process fear and build the confidence to seek help.

  • School Safety Ambassadors Programme: Empowering student leaders to advocate for safety within their peer groups.

2. Discipline Through Sport: "Taekwondo for Us"

A unique highlight of the launch was the introduction of "Taekwondo for Us," a new book authored by Madam Humphrey. The guide promotes a holistic approach to child protection by blending physical self-defense with mental discipline.

Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director General of the National Sports Authority, commended the initiative, noting that Taekwondo is an ideal vehicle for teaching children the basics of self-protection while keeping them physically active. He recommended the book to all schools and parents as an essential resource for 2026.

3. A Call for "Logistical Alliances"

Despite the campaign's success, Madam Humphrey noted that the goal of reaching every community in Ghana requires a "Partnership Reset" among corporate bodies, NGOs, and government agencies.

Stakeholder Action Plan: | Stakeholder | Recommended Action | | :--- | :--- | | Government | Integrate safety education into the national basic school curriculum. | | Corporate Ghana | Provide logistical support and funding for rural school outreach. | | Parents/Teachers | Utilize the "Taekwondo for Us" guide to reinforce lessons at home. | | NGOs | Support facilitator training to ensure child-friendly, practical learning. |

4. Context: A Monday of National "Resets"

The launch of the Safety for All Season 3 aligns with a broader national trend of rethinking social protections and institutional standards in late March 2026:

  • Social Safety: The Ministry of Gender's shift toward Respite Care and improved safety for families with disabilities.

  • Legal: The passage of the Legal Education Reform Bill, expanding access to professional training.

  • Diplomacy: President Mahama’s return from the UN following the adoption of Resolution A/80/L.48 (Slave trade as a "grave crime").

  • Heritage: The Krachiwura’s 25th Anniversary, emphasizing the role of traditional leaders in community transformation.

The Bottom Line

The 2026 Safety for All campaign represents a "Childhood Empowerment Reset." By moving beyond simple "don't talk to strangers" warnings and introducing digital literacy and taekwondo-based discipline, Candace Academy is preparing Ghanaian children for the complexities of modern life. As Madam Humphrey noted, every contribution—large or small—ensures a child somewhere learns the vital skill of self-protection.
